Flip-Flop Applique

             

             

What You'll Need
  • WW yarn in two colors (A- green and B-orange)
  • a  5.00 mm. hook
  • a  4.25 mm. hook
  • a stitch marker
  • a tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Abbreviations

ch- chain   sc- single crochet   sc2tog- single crochet two together (decrease) 

st/s- stitch/es   ext sc- extended single crochet   sl st- slip stitch       


   Pattern

 Using the 5.00 mm. hook and A, ch 5.  sc in

second ch from hook and in each ch across- (4 sc)

*ch 1, turn. sc in each sc across* repeat from * a total of 4 times- (4 sc)

 do not ch 1.  sc2tog, sc in next two stitches- (3 sc)

ch 1, turn. sc in last stitch worked before the ch 1, *sc 2 in next st* two times, sc 1 in last st-(6 sc)

ch 1, turn.  sc in last st worked before the ch 1, sc in each st across- (7 sc)

ch 1, turn.  sc normally in next two stitches, sc2tog,  sc 1 in each st to end of row- (6 sc)

ch 1, turn.  sc 2 normally, sc2tog, sc 2- (5 sc)

ch 1, turn.  sc in each sc across- (5 sc)

ch 1, turn.  1 sc in next 2, sc2tog, sc 1- (4 sc)

ch 1, turn.  sc 1, sc2tog, sc 1- (3 sc)

ch 1, turn.  sc2tog, sc 1- (2 sc)

DO NOT TURN!!
Now start working counter-clockwise...

putting marker in first stitch, evenly space 5 ext sc's down left side (making sure you finish right before the
decrease row)- (5 sts)

make 1 sl st at the decrease row, 1 ext sc in next stitch, then 2 regular sc's- (9 sts total)

4 sc evenly spaced on bottom- (13 sts total)

on other side of foot: 2 ext sc, then 2 sl sts, 1 sc, 6 ext sc- (24 sts total)

along top: 3 ext sc- (27 sts total)

sl st in first st (with the marker) and fasten off

With your 4.25 mm. hook and B, make a slipknot and take it off your hook

with right side facing you, insert your hook (pointing away from rest of shoe) under
two stitches (make sure you can't see the hook from the back) and pull your loop through- this step is done at the blue dot

with the knot hidden in the 2 sts, ch 6

make loop on hook slightly larger and remove the hook

repeat what's written in white at the green dot

ch 7, then make loop on hook slightly larger and remove hook

repeat what's in white, but insert the hook pointed towards
the top- this is done at the orange dot

sl st in loop farthest from hook that you just
worked through

fasten off and weave in ends

thanks for sharing this pattern. when my husband and i honeymooned in hawaii, flip flop jewelery was abounding in shops there. this brings back memories of that special time.

I have a secret sister who makes flip flops. I am going to make a pair of these into a key chain and gift them to her. She is crafty and had come to me to learn how to crochet, but set it down and kinda gave up. I hope these will encourage her to try again! Thanks for sharing! td
